  @Gary-Saini It is possible to use other IDE's. For example, I use Netbeans IDE running under Kubuntu. For compiling C/C++ it is necessary to install the cross compilation environment and setup Netbeans to reference the environment. The resulting built binary file can then be transferred to the Omega (using e.g. scp) and run from there. While it is also possible to set up Netbeans to also transfer the binary automatically to the Omega. Netbeans projects can be used to either use the standard C/C++ build methods or to use a specific hand crafted Makefile - I generally use the Makefile method (it is a bit easier to set up and I have a template Makefile that I tailor to any specific project). I have done this to build standalone programs and both static and dynamic libraries. I have also used Netbeans to build Java programs (for running on the Omega under jamvm).

  As i know the omega has a firewall active ... so 8080 is might not open for the modem network. And not forget to check the modem for port forwarding of 8080 (you have to access as xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8080). Maybe have a look in the wiki about the router/wireless extender tutorial for the omega, to see how to configure the firewall from it.

  @fossette Thank you. Should have replied earlier, but I have been continuing my research. I have also been offered the Raspberry PI Zero, but it seems awfully limited, with only one USB port. If I use that as the pseudo-device, then I have no other communication with the board, or can I use their USB + Ethernet adapter ( hub ), as well as making one of the ports on that adapter into the "device?" I wouldn't think so. I think that the article that you referred to will be my best bet, along with a suitable "computer," whether it is a Raspberry PI ( not Zero ) or something else. I wouldn't think that I could use a pre-built computer ( laptop ), because their hardware and drivers ( even Linux ) are pre-determined. Brian

  Sorry for the late reply. I finally got around to taking a few pictures of the board. I'm still having the same issue, and the Omega is running on the latest firmware. I did notice one pin on the header was left unsoldered, there doesn't seem to be a trace going there though. I tried to add some solder there, but there isn't a pad for it to adhere to. Still the same errors after attempting, and after a fresh factory reset too.   FYI, if you want to start a process to run on startup and continue running, then you can add it to /etc/rc.local, but that'll keep rc.local running until your process finishes (never, possibly) Instead, you can use start-stop-daemon: start-stop-daemon -S -b -x /root/project/project-script You'll need to make sure your script is executable, too. The -b puts the process in the background so it won't hold up execution of the rest of rc.local.

  Duh. Solved the problem... I had a script in /etc/init.d that wasn't backgrounding properly, so the system wasn't actually booted all the way; as a result, the button wasn't working. Fixed that script, and the button now works as expected. Anyway, I confirmed the script in /etc/rc.button/reset does work, and you can replace the reboot line with whatever you want. I hope that helps someone.

  There is a physical current limit, but it's way beyond your 500 mA use. This limit is determined by the size of the relevant PCB traces. Once this threshold is crossed, the dock will become abnormally hot, to the point where the PCB traces will literally burn like an end-of-life tungsten light bulb, plus smoke. Then, GAME OVER !! This phenomenon is only fun when you provoke it on purpose. So, when adding new hardware/gadget/stuff, it's always a good idea to feel if the devices' temperature remain stable. Warning, some devices do get very hot, and it's by design (like a CPU). There are tools to take the temperature from afar to keep your fingers safe.

  Little update: for now I'm trying just to connect a light sensor read the data with i2ctools The i2c sensor is a BH1750FVI, I'm able to retrieve the address ( 0x23 ) with i2cdetect but if I try to look for some data with i2cdump there are all zeros...I've tried to put the sensor under a light or in the dark, nothing changed. Any guess?

  @Visti-Stenmo Simplest way of copying files is to use SCP or FTP or something similar On Windows I use WinSCP connected using the Omega IP address on port 22 On Linux I set up a Network connection to ftp://root@<ip-address>:21/

  @Matthias-Nowak We seem to generally concur that there are some issues etc. that could be fruitfully addressed. One final comment on all this in relation to pins 15, 16 and 17: While these pins on the Omega and Omega2 are not exposed on the Expansion Dock, they are used on the Expansion Dock for control of the expansion LED: Pin 15 - LED blue Pin 16 - LED green Pin 17 - LED red However, note also that with the Power Dock there is no LED and so these pins are neither used nor exposed. It seems a shame to have 3 pins not exposed just to control an onboard LED that isn't always available

  Sounds interesting, but what makes this platform any better than the major competitors, Brillo/Weave, IOT Eclipse, Apple HomeKit, etc, which have nearly unlimited resources and a reputation. I understand that you have built something for the onion, but it wouldnt be that difficult to duplicate for another platform.

  @Eric-Min Welcome to the community. Just have a look in the Wiki there it has a project section. The audio streaming project looks not so complicated and you will need just a usb audiocard. Just use it as it is .. opkg. Make a postit close to the monitor to remember the command I also prefer apt/apt-get but if you want to work with several Distributions of linux you have to get used that there are a lot of packet-managements.

  With other unrelated hardware, I think I experienced WiFi failures once or twice when a cellular phone (it's WiFi off) was in use. They are not on the same frequencies, but I suspect a bad WiFi frequency filter on the WiFi equipment as the culprit. Would that make any sense?
