I had problems with the default i2c driver and I was able to solve my issue with this kernel module. The i2cdetect was working correctly with the new i2c device provided by this driver.
I am sure this may help others too. What do you think?

I know this thread is a few months old, but would you be able to share how you implemented the kmod-i2c-gpio-custom module on the onion?

I am also struggling on the Onion2+ with the standard i2c especially since I need to get i2cdetect type functionality.

Any advise on how to set this up will be appreciated.

Thanks.

nano /etc/opkg/distfeeds.conf

Uncomment the first line (reboot_core)
Save the file

opkg install kmod-i2c-gpio-custom

EDIT: that module needs kernel 4.9.44. On my omega i have 4.4.46. I don't know if it's safe to upgrade.
