  New demonstration video: There are random corruptions happening on the SPI display, where some other pixels outside of the normal rectangle are overwritten. I don't know yet if that's an issue in my driver (timing violations maybe?) or with the SPI interface, but because the entire frame is overwritten each tick, the corruption is only visible for a short amount of time.

  Hi Andrea Take a look at: https://developers.google.com/calendar/overview Personally i prefer python or php. You can use crontabs to trigger the 30min event. https://docs.onion.io/omega2-docs/running-a-command-on-a-schedule.html I don't really have any expirence with the calendar api, so I can't give you an example. But I hope this may give u an idea on how to start.

  ICSP is (SPI like and is,) using synchronous serial (CLK, MOSI, and MISO) method to perform in-circuit programming. You have to find a proper library to perform such task, probably in bitbanging style.

  Errrr, couldn't you utilize: https://onion.io/store/arduino-dock-r2/ ? It seems that you would then get the maximum response from your sonar, and then shuttle the data from the arduino chip one to the omega. For around $25 (20 for the dock, and around 4-5 for the sensor) you could get this done much in the same way you have before, without having to depend on linux timing being a bit inadequate for the task.

  awesome project. I have a similar journey ahead of me. got the max232 chip setup . but needing the proper ncurses term library to work Any clue on getting other terminals to work with it or profiles or is it all strictly vt100 compatibles I require the hz1552 variant (interfacing a Hazeltine Esprit )

  Thanks for the swift reply. Although it is a bit disappointing. I am not that much worried about the display though. My major concern is that power management. I am wondering at the moment how this issue is being handled in a simple Amazon Kindle device? AFAIK it is Unix/Linux/Android based (not exactly sure) using 800MHz i.MX ARM processor and able to run for a whole month without recharging. Of course ever XX minutes it goes into deep sleep somehow. I will most probably continue the research with something like this, although the Omega was much more appealing with its 9$ price tag Anyway ... thanks again for the reply and the involvement.

You are also feeding back 5V into the omega via the rx pin so could possibly do some damage over time. OP's circuit is OK - level shifting is not needed between Omega2(+)'s serial port and Nextion NX3224T024 - Generic 2.4'' TFT Intelligent LCD Touch Display. See also NX3224T024_011 datasheet.
