Thanks for the update and indeed, I did receive a "Your Crowd Supply order has shipped!" notification for my LTE's on 1 November.
Apologies, I meant to post a follow up about that, but have been somewhat distracted.
@cas several years ago a google engineer released some review on usb-c type plugs/cables that revealed just how many of them were faulty, seemed incorrect/bad resistors being most common. google engineer Benson Leung published a list of ok cables/adapters on his google+ page which ceased to exist recently and someone else created this posting of his findings, https://bensonapprovedcom.wordpress.com/
google sells some models on their store but they are pricey. at least much more than in 2016. i bought off that list on amazon and spent ~$12US for a kit that had a usb-c male to usb-a male cable [for attach a android phone to win 10 box] plus a usb-a female to usb-a female to create the needed usb-a female host port for OTG. ebay has some also, usually cheaper.
One problem I came across a while back was installing the Hologram Python SDK but any modem you get these days should be pretty easy to interface with a socket setup to the Hologram Cloud
@Caleb-Wiggins well, hologram does offer their own usb cellular device which is similar to the unit that they sold through onion kickstarter. but, i can't speak to if the device works well with the omega2[+]
I do have to agree with Douglas Kryder regarding particle electron. I have a couple and they are incredibly easy to work with as far as cellular setups go. I haven't tried yet but I'm thinking that possibly using a hologram, ting, or other sim in the electron may resolve the 2g issues depending on whether there's 2g available from other carriers in the area.
hologram sent me an email about using their network. i have 2 particle electrons so they must have gotten my address from that forum or somebody mined my address as a probably interested. i did not buy the device they pushed on ks so i don't know what you were promised but what they have is very similar to particle electron device except they have 4G and electron is limited to 3g.
Thanks Lazar! I was afraid of that answer... Since Hologram's business model is to sell cellular airtime, it would be a waste of resources for them to create modules with different chipsets, and that's very understandable. So many chipset variations are out there. It's unreal!
If I had the electronic knowledge to create the module, I would. My only strength is software.
