USB Boot Errors

I've managed to connect via serial. I need to reflash the firmware because this thing is bricked right now. I've got the latest release on a USB drive. I can connect via serial. Then I boot while holding reset btn. It goes to the menu where it asks you to choose Web Recovery, Command Line or Boot from USB. When I select Boot from USB it seems to work for about ten second and then it freezes and I get this error message:
*ERROR: CTL:TIMEOUT X

usb_control_msg: request: 0xFF, requesttype: 0x21
value 0x0 index 0x0 length 0x0
ERROR: CTL:TIMEOUT XI've tried everything I can think of, but I always get stalled trying to flash the firmware via USB through a serial connection.
Help?

Different USB drive maybe? Loose contact?
