Serial connection not working to grbl on Arduino dock 2

I compiled and uploaded the hex file for the grbl upload code to the dock successfully but when I use screen /dev/ttyS1 115200 all I get is garbled text ���[HL):��'$���K��el�W#
Is there a way I can communicate with the Arduino correctly?
