Powering the Onion
-
Is there a way to power and interface with the onion other than with the docks?
Although I haven't tried but it looks like it could fit on a breadboard and I could use by breadboard power to get it running. However on the new GPIO page on the Ando release of the console it specifies 3.3v, 2.8v and 2.0v on different pins. I'll assume theres a downconverter on the docks that power these pins and so if I did I'd need to power these with the voltages specified?

Found a bit more info:
https://onion.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/6000069950-how-can-i-use-the-gpios-I can see now the 3.3v is Vin, the 2.8v and 2.0v are both Vout.
This seems to confirm my assumptions that I can connect 3.3v upto the Vin and GND and it should power up fine.
I'll await a confirmation before blowing up my little onion

@Sawyer-McBride Yup, that's correct. You won't blow it up by providing 3.3v to Vin

Just to update this thread. Have just used a breadboard PSU with 3.3v on the Vin pin and hooked up the ground.
All worked perfectly, unfortunately onion doesnt fit my breadboard as its too small!
Just for good measure I hooked up an LED (with resistor in series) to the GPIO. I used the console, gpioctl and fast-gpio to turn it on and off and can report all worked
