Thanks for the detailed reply. I went with option 3 and managed to fit some 0805 onto the 0603 pads and it works as expected. Thanks again.

RE: Defective Hardware (Mini-Dock) | Serial connection not working correctly | Factory Firmware defective
Firstly I'm partly sorry for reviving the old thread; but I've butted my head against this same problem.
@onion can you fix your documentation so we can track these changes and make the necessary adjustments to our boards? Suggesting simply buying the mini dock 2 when there is no such item for sale isn't making this any less frustrating. I must admit I had completely forgotten about these things until I was looking to replace Hi-link RM04 modules, their next model was pretty much identical and I saw an opportunity to get my work to support the open source community ... but when I couldn't even get a serial connection going after an hour the powers to be pulled the plug. However I'd still like to sort this out for my own use.
I borrowed the rewards from a friend who also backed the 2 and 2+ and his dock is identical to mine. Neither work.

RE: Omega2 default WiFi key? How to activate serial console?
seems strange to not have a note/link about this on the getting started that you end up from the front page.

Omega2 default WiFi key? How to activate serial console?
So my Omega2 showed up the other day, tried to connect to it today. Shows up as a WiFi network Omega-XXXX but it is encrypted out of the box, I must have missed some information here?
So I hook it up to the mini dock from my first gen Omega and wait for the serial driver to install, connect to COM7 @ 115200 baud, but nothing. Reboot the device and no console output what so ever?
Is there a different https://wiki.onion.io/Get-Started for the Omega2?

RE: I do Onion's marketing - ask me anything!
Being the marketing guy, do you think its likely that Onion will expand the Omega line into low power bluetooth devices, and setting the stage for having the existing Omegas act as Bluetooth LE 6LoWPAN router toward low power devices?

RE: USB port stopped working
Aye, I've tried several usb drives, two cameras and a few usb hubs; there is zero response from the devices, nor any entries in the dmesg output for having plugged devices in or out. I've also borrowed a different dock (stil waiting for my battery dock to arrive) and same results with another dock. It was literally just sitting on my desk minding its own business, broadcasting an eddystone URL over bluetooth when the broadcasts stopped without any other adverse effects to the Omega board.
Ah, but its a moot point I guess, pretty sure it arrived more than 35 days ago; so guess its going in the bin and I'll wait for the Omega2s to arrive. At least I have a dock though!

USB port stopped working
Have been using the Onion the last few days as a BLE beacon, but suddenly it stopped broadcasting. I assumed it was the BLE dongle, but it seems the USB controller just died while just sitting there. Dongle works on other devices, and I've borrowed another dock and same result.
Suggestion on how to determine if its a hardware or software failure? I doubt its a software issue as I've tried a factory reset and there wasn't really any changes made to the software when it stopped working.

RE: Onion or Onion2 as Bluetooth beacon?
https://community.onion.io/topic/771/bluetooth-add-ons-solved
that thread shows how to add bluetooth software, took up about 3MB flash.
basicallyopkg install obluez-libs obluez-utils
Then its a matter of using hcitool to configure the beacon. I was after an Eddystone URL beacon and found this site helpfull in setting ut up.
https://hackaday.io/project/10314-raspberry-pi-3-as-an-eddystone-url-beaconThat last page also had a link to a tool to generate the the beacon advertising data. Keep in mind the URL length is limited to 20(?) characters, but there are special characters for common prefix and suffixes, like http:// and .com etc. So I ended up with adding the commands to my rc.local file as shown below, and upon boot the beacon is started.
Other types of beacons (ibeacon etc) just requires a diffent hcitool command with different beacons settings.
root@Omega-2194:~# cat /etc/rc.local # Put your custom commands here that should be executed once # the system init finished. By default this file does nothing. hciconfig hci0 up hciconfig hci0 leadv 3 hcitool -i hci0 cmd 0x08 0x0008 1e 02 01 06 03 03 aa fe 16 16 aa fe 10 00 02 65 6e 6c 69 67 68 74 65 6e 65 64 2e 74 69 70 73 00 exit 0
