Onion Omega as wireless USB hub
-
Hi all,
Just putting this here in case it is of use to anyone else. I saw this link here for using the RPI as a wireless usb hub and saw that VirtualHere has a MIPS version. Tried it out and it works a treat with the omega, a lot cheaper than any commercial solution I have seen such as the Belkin Home Hub.

@Michael-Vowles that's an amazing idea, is there any way you could connect more than one USB device, and is the VirtualHere something that you could receive the information to your phone
-
@Michael-Vowles I made it work pretty nicely. But i can't seem to get it to run at boot-up.
Did you manage to do that?
-
@Matthew-Hartsuch if you edit the file /etc/rc.local with the following line ./root/vhusbdmips -b this will run it on startup. Note that I have the executable in /root
-
@Matthew-Hartsuch if you had a Usb hub I don't see why it wouldn't work. As for seeing devices from your phone I don't think this is possible as their Android app only acts as a server for Usb devices not a client.

I wonder how hard it would be to do this with an esp8266?

Kind of off-topic... I guess you would have better luck asking your question here:

@Matthew-Hartsuch. Can confirm this works with a Usb hub.
