Powering the Power Dock
-
Hi, While I'm waiting for my kickstarter package to arrive, I thought I'd check out a few things about the power dock. I've read https://wiki.onion.io/Tutorials/Expansions/Using-the-Power-Dock so I think I've got the basics.
I understand it won't come with a battery so I'll need to buy one. What I was wondering is if I could use a cellphone battery? They are lithium ion rather than lithium polymer, and 3.87V rather than 3.7V and I'd have to make a connector. Is it worth trying? Would the charging circuit still work? It's just that I've got a 3000mAh battery surplus to requirements, so i thought it might be worth a try.
Thanks

It looks like you've got the right thing, baralong. The voltage is almost the same. Your battery will be able to handle the Onion charger because of the 0.17V on top of it. Also, you can expect your Omega to be able to run on your battery twice as long as the 1500mAh one stated in your link.

I would agree with @fossette .
Additionally, suitable batteries are available from Adafruit that come with the right kind of connector:- 2000 mAh - https://www.adafruit.com/products/2011
- 2500 mAh - https://www.adafruit.com/products/328
- 4400 mAh - https://www.adafruit.com/products/354
- 6600 mAh - https://www.adafruit.com/products/353
I have used the 2500 mAh one with the Power Dock for quite some time and it works well

Thanks for the info. I'm looking forward to giving it all a try
