H264 encoding from webcams, WiFi streaming fps?
-
I keep reading that h264 encoding from JPEG or YUV webcams (e.g., the very worthy PS3 Eye, $6/7 at Amazon, with mic and speaker) would be tough for the mt7688, but what frame rates and resolutions are we talking?
Can Omega2 do 640*480 at say 3-5 fps? What would the throughput look like for WiFi streaming?

I have a Logitech C920 webcam hooked up (Omega 2+ on the Expansion Dock)and getting 1280x720 and while 60 FPS is a little shaky, 30FPS performs better than it did on my PC.

@Brad-Buskey The C920 outputs H.264-video already encoded by the camera itself, the Omega2 ain't encoding it, and that's why it can do it. The OP is asking about actually encoding H.264-video on the Omega2.

I came across this interesting Python project:
http://www.pyimagesearch.com/2015/12/21/increasing-webcam-fps-with-python-and-opencv/
If this could help, how much flash memory would it take in the Omega2 besides the LEDE OS space?

@WereCatf Ah, ok. I wonder then, if it would be more beneficial to find an inexpensive or refurbished camera like the Logitech C920 and break it down out of its shell and remount it somehow, or just have it like I do - on a shelf in the room and the O2+ sitting below. Dunno. That would take the processing question out of the equation.
