Ok, I killed it again. Seriously, how to do a factory reset?
-
After discovering that my USB storage and memory card were both mounted and usable after the latest firmware upgrade, I went to town and started installing all the packages I wanted to play with (git, nodejs, python...) and promptly ran out of space on / again.
Long story short, I spent some time mucking around and trying to move directories over to removable storage to free up space (making adjustments in opkg.conf to make better use of my new storage, for example). Now when I try to get back into the device, not only does it not respond to SSH, the web console doesn't even come up. I get the generic "index" page like the web server is running but it's pointing to an empty directory.
I feel like I've done this before, but what do I need to do to get it back to factory reset condition? I'm getting more efficient with getting it back up and running every time I do this :). I thought it was "hold the reset button down for up to 30 seconds" but I try that, the LED starts blinking quickly after about 10 seconds, but then upon reboot I'm back where I started from.

Omega1 or 2? That's the question...
-
@Luciano-S. Sorry - Omega2+, with the mini dock.

Ok, maybe the reset did work -- I got SSH back (after removing an old entry from my .ssh/known_hosts file), and came into a machine that remembered nothing of my previous setup, no mounted storage cards, no wifi recognized ... but fine, I can work with that.
What's surprising is that in /overlay/upper/www/console there's nothing. Just a lib directory. Is that right? Where'd my console go? Can I independently download that from a different source? I liked it, especially for firmware upgrade.

@Duane-Morin try running
firstboot
then restart andoupgrade -f
. That got me back to the initial setup where you can install the web console. It did keep all of my effed up settings Wish it was easier to wipe the entire slate clean.

The easiest, most sure-fire way of getting all settings wiped to defaults is to just reflash the whole thing: http://community.onion.io/topic/1154/omega-2-usb-firmware-install-after-brick-resolved

@WereCatf That is hugely helpful! Does this work with the MMC interface as well? I may need to go format a USB drive as ext4 now.
-
@patrick-gunderson No, it only works from Ethernet or USB. Also, the USB-drive doesn't have to be ext4, I used fat32 when I tested this.

@WereCatf Thank you! This is the type of info that belongs in a central repository of some sort. If only there were a web technology built around users contributing their knowledge of specific situations for others to use.
