I have two jobs, one is a teacher & the other is a web developer (my simple explanation anyway).

I've just put together a mini series on using the Onion Omega with these 4 parts (was 4! added 2 more as well):

1. Part 1 - Setting up your Onion Omega for the First Time
2. Part 2 - The 3 ways to connect to Onion Omega Terminal
3. Part 3 - Expanding your Onion Omega's Memory with a USB Drive
4. Part 4 - Using a USB Hub & Web camera with you Onion Omega
5. Part 5 - Installing & Using PHP with your Onion Omega
6. Part 6 - Resolving the Time & Date issue with PHP on the Onion Omega

Any topic suggestions I should create that you would feel would be useful to the community?

What's missing?

1. An ADC expansion
2. Video tutorials
3. Mini projects/examples that can be learned from to make larger projects

For the mini projects, think of them as bricks to build a house. We have very few bricks right now!

Not sure if anyone else noticed the suggestion of "Arduino cloud compile (cross-compile your C/C++ code in the cloud & have your binary pushed to the Arduino automatically, wirelessly, remotely)" that one for me is a no-brainer.

It would allow current users (personal, professional & educational) of the popular Arduino* boards to port their existing projects over to a more powerful/flexible device.

My 2p anyway. What did you suggest?

Yep that's right, you'll need to add the php mod files for php to work, as Lazar mentioned, see the tutorials I popped together on this.

Yep totally do-able

The Omega runs uhttpd which is a mini webserver and is what you've been using the view the console with.

If you want to view this page on other computers in your network, you'll want to make sure that you "Wi-Fi Network Setup" is setup to be connected to a wifi network so the Omega is reachable from other points in your network.

To find out the IP address, type this on the command line and press enter:

/sbin/ifconfig -a

It'll be "wlan0" and something like 192.168.0.10

To create a page, from the command line run this:

cd /www/
vi mypage.html

Enter in your code and then save

Then go to http://192.168.3.1/mypage.html or... if you find out the IP address of your device, you can then use that instead.

You can use the text editor in the Omega console, but the created file won't have enough permissions to be viewed, if that is what you've done run this command in the terminal:

chmod 755 /www/myfile.html

And see if that resolves it.

Howdy,

This is a daft question I know, but I'm hoping someone can enlighten me to why I'm unable to do this.

Following the tutorial here https://wiki.onion.io/Tutorials/Using-USB-Storage-as-Rootfs the USB drive needs to be formatted as ext4.

However do that, with wrt you would normally install "e2fsprogs", however I'm unable to do that:

root@Omega-1XXX:~# opkg install e2fsprogs
Unknown package 'e2fsprogs'.
Collected errors:
opkg_install_cmd: Cannot install package e2fsprogs.

So why no disk utilities and why are the blocked? Can anyone suggest an alternative?

Looking forward to playing with node, also I wrote my own PHP app for a webcamera & babysitting the 3d printer, added in the GPIO library to turn LED strips so I could actually see what was going on at night when the office lights were off.

Can't wait to see what the console app version is like (and to see how much I can abuse it!).

PS. My webcamera has been running at 1280x720 for days (a logitech 310 or something) and while the Omega has got warm, it's been stable.

I've had one of my onions play up on my desk, while the other 2 were fine with the office wifi.

A serial connection is the way to go and a tip is when you first connect on the COM port (make sure the baud speed is 115200) is to bash a couple of keys in the terminal until you see the message "press enter to start...", then hit enter and tada! Other wise it just stays as a blank screen

After that run "wifisetup" and follow the instructions.

As you can imagine the ability to run shell commands to interrogate the onion in a console app would be nuts!

Errr got into a flow and have also recorded:

Part 7 - Python & the LCD I2C Library on the Onion Omega
Part 8 - GPIO Pins as Inputs on Your Onion Omega
Part 9 - PIR Sensor using the GPIO pins on your Onion Omega

I've sent them over to my video editor and I'll get them back in a couple of days.

And a heads up, as a "developer" you'll hate them They'll be too slow and they're meant for my kinda level of learning
