Omega Dash Display Part Number or Controller

  • Hello,
Im planning to use Omega Dash for one of my projects, but the display is not suitable for my purpose.
Does anyone know what controller is that display using?
    Thanks in advance.

  • administrators

  • Thanks a lot!
Just one more thing: is it possible to burn OmegaDash's fw into an Omega2? I assume OmegaDash's fw already contains the interface to the display controller. It would be great to have it also in Omega2 without needing compilation.

  • administrators

@Alfonso-Blanco Yep, you can flash the Omega2 Dash fw onto a regular Omega2

  • @Lazar-Demin I have just burnt the latest FW version of OmegaDash into my Omega2, but the system will keep rebooting in a loop.

This is what I get in the console:

  • administrators

@Alfonso-Blanco hmm to confirm you flashed an Omega2+ with the Omega2 Dash firmware? And not an Omega2?
If it's an Omega2 then the issue is because of the smaller RAM and Flash.

If not, a hypothesis: the device is trying to initialize the TFT controller, when the TFT controller doesn't respond the kernel panics

I'll try flashing an Omega2 Dash fw to an Omega2+ to see if I can replicate

  • Im flashing an Omega2 with OmegaDash fw. Is it supposed to work only if I do it with an Omega2+?

  • administrators

@Alfonso-Blanco Yes, it will only work on an Omega2+

The Omega2 Dash is based on the Omega2S+ which has the same amount of RAM and Storage as the Omega2+

  • That is correct. It now works smoothly on an Omega2+. Im looking to duplicate the console on the display upon boot up. Im following this instructions: https://docs.onion.io/omega2-docs/running-a-command-on-boot.html by appending the line sh > /dev/tty0 at the end of the rc.local file, but it seems not to work.
Anything I am doing wrong? (obviously Im not a software guy).

  • administrators

@Alfonso-Blanco sh needs to be running indefinitely in the background. The command you need is probably something like sh > /dev/tty0 &

More info on running commands in the background here.

I recommend playing around with this just on the command line to get it working. Then once you've figured it out, you can add it to the rc.local so it runs at boot
