Is there a version changelog?

  • Hi guys, is there a way to figure out what has changed between versions? When major or minor versions go up, there must be some kind of change. Maybe there a diff to look at on GitHub or elsewhere.

  • Hi @Andrei-Railean, we don't have a changelog yet, and it's something we've been wanting to put up for a while. However, for each console release, for example the one here: https://community.onion.io/topic/198/mega-omega-software-release, we do list out all the changes we have made.

We've just been swamped with work for the holiday season. We'll put up something for our Github repos in the new year!

  • Thanks @Boken-Lin

I think you guys should consider opening up this project a bit more and asking for community help with things, not try to do everything yourselves. You're doing a great job with the hardware and i presume a lot of time is going into trying to commercialise the service side of things and the app store. With only the 3 of you working on it, there's not much time left to work on documentation and helping the community get the most of their omegas.

As I understand it, success (velocity) of projects like this one is heavily dependent on community, transparency and docs/specs/guides. Personally, I think forums are a great place to interact, but not a great place for longer-term knowledge capture or as a "source of truth". Your wiki is kinda there, but it doesn't allow community participation or comments. Perhaps GitHub should play more of a role in helping community participate or resolve issues.

  • So long as it does not turn into Sourceforge. Started my python hobby programming and my first and last encounter with them, they are so "mightier then thee" in there responses.

  • @Boken-Lin @Andrei-Railean If it is of any assistance, I could spare some time to help with documentation if I had access to (copies of) the source documents.
I an currently "between jobs" and have a bit of time to spare - let me know if I can be of assistance

  • Hi @Andrei-Railean, Thank you very much for your comment. We have been trying to building up a community around the Omega, but we are pretty new at this, so your advices are very helpful.

Can you go into a bit more details on what kind of things we should do? For example, the source of the wiki is at https://github.com/OnionIoT/wiki, and we welcome anyone to modify/add stuff/send us pull request, etc. We probably didn't do a good job telling everyone about it. I will add a note to the wiki site to let everyone know that the wiki is modifiable.

@Rudy-Trujillo We'll do our best to avoid that šŸ™‚

@Kit-Bishop: Thanks! You have been answering a lot of questions on the community as well! We do have a list of tutorials and documentation articles that's on our to-do list. It would be awesome if you can help us with some of them.

  • @Boken-Lin All good šŸ™‚ What would be the best way to make contact without compromising too much information in an open forum? For your information, I have published an email address in my user profile - it's an address that I keep separate from my personal stuff to avoid risks of too much hacking

  • @Kit-Bishop Private messaging system or directly to my email at bl@onion.io.

  • @Boken-Lin All good - will be in touch soon
