USB boot without serial
-
Hi,
i just bricked my omega2 and i just have the power dock which means that i got no serial connection to my omega.
is there a way to either via the reset button make it install a new FW using the usb host port?
or is there some way to use the TX RX pins on the gpio to get a serial connection or is it just a matter of buying a new dock?//Sebastian

Yes, buy a separate USB TTL-adapter, like e.g. http://www.ebay.com/itm/CP2102-6Pin-USB-2-0-to-TTL-UART-Module-Serial-Converter-STC-Replace-FT232-New-AS-/291933094711 -- be sure it's a CP2102 or CP2104, as those work the best with the Omega2.

thank you for the anwser. do you think i can use a PL2303HX instead? in that case i can pick one up today.
i saw another one using the PL2303HX in forum.

@Sebastian-Nilsson It should work, but the one I have doesn't. It could be, because mine is a Chinese clone, not an original one. That is to say, YMMV.

@Sebastian-Nilsson Maybe, but be careful with the PL2303 USB TTL-adapter boards or cables - the one I have (came with a Raspberry Pi- Adafruit) measures 5 volts on the Vcc line and 4.7V on the data lines and there is no jumper option for 3v3. The Omegas are rated at 3.3 ~ 3.6V. I powered an Omega2 for perhaps an hour with that PL2303 and the Omega's RF shield got really hot, then I measured the voltage on the PL2303's lines and decided not to do that again! If you care about the longevity of your Omega powering it with 5V is not a good choice.
A CP210X adapter like WereCatf recommended is the USB TTL adapter to get, they always work and have 3V3 lines.
