LED or other digital display recommendations

  • Dear Onion Community:

I'm completely new to this kind of stuff and could use some recommendations from you to get my project off the ground.

I purchased an Omega 2 and when it arrived I was 'disappointed' that I couldn't do anything with it. I'd assumed ignorantly that I could just start it up and start playing with Linux on it, but evidently I can't even plug it in and so I was in for a big wake-up call on this one. šŸ˜ƒ

Anyway, I need your help with helping me pick out the parts/pieces I need. I would like to make a digital display clock as my first project, it can have either one very large display or medium-to-large individual displays that I can put together to make it look like a clock-like screen.

I'm thinking something along the lines of a display 8 inches or so high and it can be as wide as necessary. Can anyone recommend a digital display that I can output the numbers and : symbol that is that size or bigger and what parts I'd need to connect it to my Omega 2?

I appreciate your time and consideration and really look forward to hearing from all of you. I promise I'll expand on it and post photos to those who are interested as I go. Thanks so much and have a great day!

  • I have used this LCD and have gotten it to work with a tutorial here.

This is how I got it working with the LCD

You will need to get an expansion dock, power dock or mini dock or ardruino dock to really make it easy to work with. If you didnt, you can order one from the indygogo campaign.
