Hardware Reset issue on v23.05.3

  • @matiaslao Unfortunately I can't test myself due to lack of hands, one of the Onion guys will need to. @Lazar-Demin77 is no longer with Onion so I guess it is up to @Zheng-Han

  • Ok, thanks @crispyoz. If either you or @Zheng-Han happen to test it, please keep me posted. Also, if there is any further question, don't hesitate in asking me.

    Best regards,
    Matias

  • Hi @crispyoz and @Zheng-Han, I wanted to kindly follow up and ask if you have any updates regarding this issue.

Due to compliance with cybersecurity standards, we are required to update the OpenWrt version in our Zigbee gateways equipped with Onion devices. This makes the matter critical for us, and we would highly appreciate any feedback or guidance you can provide.

In the absence of updates and/or a solution, we may need to reassess our roadmap and start evaluating alternative SoM solutions for future developments.

    Best regards,
    Matias

  • @matiaslao Unfortunately I'm voice typing this right now due to lack of hands otherwise I certainly would. I don't work for Onion just use their products in my products. @Zheng-Han (CEO) hasn't been online since July and @Lazar-Demin is no longer with Onion. Interestingly I note Onion Corporation was dissolved 30th April 2025.

Since this is an opensource product they have no requirement to support the product, but I think it would be nice if @Zheng-Han provided some sort of statement to users especially in light of the statement that Omega2 is going to be available until 2028

Perhaps another member can test, @luz may be able to assist.

  • @crispyoz, I am sorry to hear that you are still experiencing the consequences of your accident, and I wish you a smooth and speedy recovery.

Given your active presence in the forum, I had assumed you were part of Onion. I sincerely appreciate the clarity and proactivity you bring to each of your contributions.

The dissolution of Onion comes as a surprise to me, as one of the key factors in validating our design with the Omega was the assurance of production until 2028. May I ask if you know what will happen with ongoing production, or if another company has acquired the IP and continues to support the design?

Thank you once again for your valuable support and contributions.

  • @matiaslao I don't know that the dissolution impacts on 2028 availability, perhaps it's just a reorganisation. I want clarity myself as it impacts my own planning. This is why I think @Zheng-Han needs to provide some form of statement.

Availability may just mean that if someone orders 500 units then they'll do a production run, I have no idea.

As my current work is on hold it's pushed my own planning out by about a year, so this is a concern for me. I think the uncertainty could be a killer.

I'll email Zheng directly and see what response I receive.

  • @crispyoz we are in the same situation. If you happen to have any update from @Zheng-Han please keep me posted.

    Best regards,
    Matias

  • @crispyoz same here, but it seems you didnt hear anything from him? Maybe they're still using the company in china for selling the omega? I mean they produce it there or am i wrong?

  • @DocHardinger No response to my email so far. As an open source product they can just walk away. I don't know that they have, but they can.

Sorry for the confusion and the delayed reply. We have no plans to close operations. The dissolution mentioned earlier refers only to our Canadian subsidiary, which we had used to manage payroll for Canadian employees. Since transitioning to a third-party payroll service, we closed the subsidiary as it was no longer needed.

Right now, we’re fully focused on developing the next generation of Omega, which we expect to launch in mid-2026. The new Omega is designed to be sold alongside Omega2, not as a replacement. We have no near-term plans to end-of-life Omega2 and will likely extend its guaranteed availability as we approach 2028.

I’ll be sharing more updates about the new Omega early next year.
