The Onion App SDK is here!

  • It’s your one-stop shop for learning how to create and submit Apps to be featured in the Onion Cloud App Store! Follow along with the tutorial based guide to learn how to use Onion’s APIs to create new and awesome Apps for all Onion users. We would also like to introduce the Onion Kitchen, it’s a desktop version of the Onion Cloud meant to allow developers to debug their Apps in an environment similar to the real Onion Cloud. The download links can be found at: http://sdk.onion.io/download

Let us know what you think of the SDK and how we can make it better!

Check back often because we’re continuously adding new features and updating the SDK!

  • And Linux users turn thumbs mine while?

  • administrators

We're working on it! Sit tight!

  • @Lazar-Demin There is some sort of sick irony in being unable to develop apps for a Linux system on Linux. Seriously? How is this even a joke? Linux devs don't need a snap package or some great gui but we should have some first preference options when it comes to building for our own platform.

@T NT Your comment definitely shows that you are not a Linux Dev. If you would be, you just would have posted a link with more info's or how to configure a development environment for a Linux User. And yes ... you not have to be a dev. to write some sort of Html Documents & Java Scripts. Everyone who wants to get into that can do it ... just i do ask my self, why a Linux User has to ask first and a Windows an OSX user get a complete environment to download.

So, on the download Page at least a link or a sentence about Linux wold be appreciated.

    Who is we?

And yes of course i googled :
    https://www.polymer-project.org/1.0/start/toolbox/set-up

@administrators is the link a good start for a Linux User? Otherwise an explanation about requirements would not be a bad idea.

  • @Luciano-S.

    Who is we?

We, would be the backers who were attracted to the Omega because of it's open source nature. We are the users who continued to be frustrated that the custom kernel still does not track the OpenWRT repo or that a Repo has not been ported to the current kernel so modules can be used against it.

Your comment definitely shows that you are not a Linux Dev.

Stop making ASSumptions. You don't know me from Adam but I am very well aware that the trumpeting of an SDK seems to have fallen flat because there is no mention of a Linux version of it.

But you are right. A simple note saying "Linux SDK here soon" would have been a courtesy, as long as it was the truth.

And the Clients who bought via official Web-shop can not have any expectations? Btw ... to get not to much disappointed, open-source means spit in our own hands and bring with own effort the community there where we want to have it. To accuse each other not helps to make the situation better ...

    Stop making Assumptions.

True ... but you can say this also on a way without to offend using words with double meaning 😉

We're working on a Linux version of the Onion Kitchen, we've just got our hands very full with the campaign right now! But rest assured that it will be available as soon as it's ready, we never give up until our Onioneers get everything we promised them!

Also, regarding the kernel issues, the Omega's firmware follows the head of the OpenWRT CC repo, we add customizations on top of it. After the campaign, we'll make it a priority to fix that nagging kernel version issue.

In terms of the SDK itself, what can we improve? What have we missed?

Really? We have to wait for a new product to be completed before you fix the current product?

Come on! All someone has to do is tell your build environment to build all the kmod packages against your kernel version and put the packages into your custom repo. You already build some custom modules and packages, so it can't be that hard.

One of your customers has reported that iptables cannot be installed. This is basic linux security for internet connected things.

Please read the statement from Lazar again carefully ... he said after the campaign (30Days) it is a priority ... the product will be shipped in November ... so ... your assumption is incorrect.

BTW ... in a good working opnesource-community members will do their own compiled versions and give it back to the community. This is called collaboration 😉

I guess it is also time that we go back to the Topic:
