[RESOLVED] Kernel panic - not syncing: stack-protector: Kernel stack is corrupted in: 8771d944

  • My omega 2 plus does not start, after 15 seconds the led turn off and it stops. The error is:

I would like to reinstall the firmware, however, I do not have any dock (to follow http://community.onion.io/topic/1154/omega-2-usb-firmware-install-after-brick), any one have an idea to solved this problem?

  • The docs is (becoming) your best friend:
    https://docs.onion.io/omega2-docs/manual-firmware-installation.html

However, a kernel panic is perhaps caused by a hardware problem, and I doubt that putting the same firmware will fix this problem.

  • Same issue here...
Anyone got any tips to solve this ?

  • @Tony-Cederfjard , do you see the orange bar on top of the page?

  • @Luciano-S. Ehrm? Sorry but no i do not have anything orange on top of my page no.

  • BUT i guess you mean read before post.. and yes i have done that and since i have the same issue i thought it was ok to post about it.
"If posting in another user's thread, please be courteous and post only if you are offering input or you are in the same situation."
I acctually managed to get it to start up ok but after a while it just freezes and when i try to reboot i allmost allways get the same error again.
    This is what i get..

  • @Tony-Cederfjard , pleas don't guess (assumptions) ... better ask !

What i men't is on the top of page it has a link to the guidelines. To be able to help you, you have to give specific info''s to find out if it is a hardware problem.

The link says (in my case it is very huge and with orange background):

If you have an issue with your Onion products, please read these guidelines before posting (checkout link ... see top).

Help us help you by giving us the information we need to troubleshoot!

A list of previously resolved issues is available here.

And please have a look to that too:
How to format a Request (specially with boot-log) so see:
    https://community.onion.io/topic/707/markdown-how-to-start-with-it

And yes my intention is to help!

  • We don"t want to scroll as fools and make the requests unnecessary long!

Tell me, does it not look better this way?

  • @Luciano-S. Tell you what!
I do not have the time to sit and get educated by you on how to create a window in wich you still have to scroll.... I bought a product that is not working as intended and i did not want to post a new thread about it so i simply posted in an existing one that i have the exact same problem. (as it is stated in the guidelines).

I have solved the issue at hand by throwing the Omega 2+ in the bin and will look for other ways to do what i want to do.

Remember sir... if you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem..

    Best regards
    Tony C

  • @Tony-Cederfjard , good look in the new community šŸ˜‰ (and luck too of course...)

  • @Luciano-S. I allways look good! šŸ˜‰
I may have overreacted, admited but really?
I made a new post just to try and be mature about this but i realise now that that was totally in vain. To bad, i like the concept of this little thingy but this community seems to be way to much dev-forum and really not for the common person..

    Have a wonderfull life!

  • Same sh!t to me.

on BOTH! brand new onion 2+.

What can we do, please help us.

I tried a firmware update without any effects. Same problem.

  • Any ideas?

  • @Mr.B As mentioned in other threads, a module not able to report the memory size it is supposed to have is the sign of a hardware problem. Follow up with Onion for a RMA case.

Indeed, but there do not seem to be any mentions of that issue in this thread.

Unless I'm missing something, the traces here all show boards that actually boot Linux to at least some degree; a board without working DDR2 can't get past the point where U-Boot tries to move itself to DDR RAM.

  • These kinds of issues are most likely because of an incomplete flash or a corrupted flash, and I would recommend flashing a new firmware by following the steps at http://community.onion.io/topic/1154/omega-2-usb-firmware-install-after-brick-resolved -- it erases the current firmware and all the settings there, so if any of them were corrupted and was the reason behind this issue, it'd solve that. On the other hand, if the problem persists even after flashing the firmware via USB (and you're absolutely certain it successfully flashed it), then it's most likely a hardware-failure -- possibly bad RAM-chip.

  • @fossette Hey,
thank you. Can you send me the link to start an rma case?

I tried it four times on both devices. ;( - Bad luck

  • No way. I tried all posibilities I know. ;( Firmware flash, factory reset, and so on... Nothing!
