Unable to resolve omega-XXXX.local address. Firewall settings?

First off, total NOOB here.
I have an Omega2+ that is set up to connect to my home network. When I try to connect to the Omega via a web browser using the omega-XXXX.local address, I get nothing. If I try to connect to it via its IP address (192.168.3.1) I get nothing.
If I connect to the Omega's network I can use the IP address to connect, but I still can't use the omega-XXXX.local web address to connect.
My best guess is that I have some firewall settings that are blocking me from resolving the address. But then again, I don't really know what I'm talking about.
I appreciate any advice I can get.

@Douglas-Kryder I looked through those topics, and the common theme was install Bonjour service to enable the .local name address. I had done that already. The Bonjour service states that it requires UDP port 5353 open, so I set my firewall accordingly. It is still not working.
Still doesn't work.
Anything else? Anyone else?

@Tom-Yochum would having a hosts file help. what mechanism is supposed to facilitate the resolving of that address?

No - maybe as a substitute, but that's not the point of such addresses.

mDNS addresses are resolved via announcement, query, and response traffic on UDP port 5353
