16 Pos. SMT Header sourcing help
-
I have a project that is going to require roughly 100 Omega2+ modules.
I am having a hard time sourcing an SMT version of the 2.00 pitch 16 Position headers that the Omega module fits into.
Like this... https://onion.io/store/16-pin-header-20-pack/ but in a Surface Mount package. The type that are used on the Arduino Dock R2
Can anyone point me to a supplier for these? (Chinesium prefered)

I don't understand why you would need a header when you are using a surface mount SOC. The 20 pack you refer to to are the same as used on the R2. The 2S+ isn't 16 pin.
I surface mounted a 2+ on my custom PCB by bending the pins, as I was impatient for the headers to arrive. My first attempt was unsuccessful because I think I cooked the Omega. My next attempt was successful as I used a hand held heat sink. I haven't tried it in my T-962 SMD BGA Infrared Heater Reflow Oven, I can't afford to lose any more omega.

The Omega2+ is not surface mount.... your thinking of the Omega2S or Omega2S+. I am not using either of those, as they do not meet my requirements.
The 20 pack i refer to are through-hole headers. The Arduino Dock R2 uses SMT headers. I need the SMT headers as my board will be populated by pick and place machine and reflow soldered.

OK I missed your point, sorry I thought you wanted to use a 2S+ in a header, hence my confusion. Now I see the R2 headers are SMT, never noticed that before. Why not use a 2S+ and save the cost of the headers.
-
I was really hoping @Lazar-Demin would see this and get me a part number...
As I stated above the 2S or 2S+ will not work for what I need. Using a 2+ with headers is actually cheaper for my volumes and application.

I source mine from SAMTEC, they make these type of connectors.
https://www.samtec.com/I use the through hole Part number SQT-116-01-F-S
https://www.samtec.com/products/sqt-116-01-f-sBut the have the SMD range i believe
https://www.samtec.com/connectors/standard-board-to-board/2mm/sockets

Thanks @UFD from a quick first glance it looks like they don't have single row SMT only dual row....
ill keep looking though.
-
They certainly do. They show the dual row as an example on the main page
https://www.samtec.com/connectors/standard-board-to-board/2mm/socketsBut then select the range you want and then choose single row to find the specific part.
like: https://www.samtec.com/products/smm-116-02-s-s
Maybe email them with your specific requirements.

Thanks again, I also found this: https://www.infinite-electronic.hk/product/Sullins-Connector-Solutions_NPPN161BFLC-RC.aspx
From a previous post (I guess I didn't search well enough before posting) https://community.onion.io/topic/980/omega-compatible-2-00mm-female-pin-headers

@Jon-Gordon best of luck in trimming those down if you plan on making 2 8pos header out of 1 16pos header. i suggest using laser cutter for that task.
-
@Douglas-Kryder why would I trim them? The Omega2+ has two rows, 16 pins each.
-
If you take a 16 pin header and cut it in half you end up with 2 x 8 pin header. Then you can put them next to each other and get a 16 pin header.
-
@Jon-Gordon yeah, sorry about that. i need to stop reading the forum after a night at the bar. i'm looking at making a small protoboard needing just 8 pins and for some reason thought you were also. demon alcohol.
