omega2 plus sdcard not working
-
@Mikael-Djurfeldt Yes, that'd be great. The "custom" lede repo at github, that is used for OmegaOS, does not include .config file for kernel config. It is too easy to build an image that'll brick the omega. Someone more knowledgeable about build process could share info here, or we could setup wiki at wikia, and put all the info there. I'd help as much as I can.
-
@Mikael-Djurfeldt I am planning to work on my custom-image and I did think about writing a terse how-to, but that's gonna take a couple of days.

I have the same issue, any update on the firmware?

@WereCatf Please do write. Share kernel's .config file too.
-
@WereCatf Please But take your time

update to firmware 1.7 b141 - issue still exists.
Why? How long does it take until the problem is fixed? I wanted the omega2p just because of the sdcard support.
-
@Linus-Lirpa Seriously. They are hiring WebDev, when what they really need is FOSS Community manager. If Onion folks understood that community would develop all the webcrap they ever dreamed of and more, only if they were herded and were provided with actual FOSS of all Omega components.
-
@Zogg-Baubas Considering how much I am doing their work for them here on the forums by trying to help people around, they should start paying me salary
Or at least send me some more Omegas and some docks, so I can test things and help people use them, since I ain't got any docks.
-
@WereCatf Indeed! I'm staying here at least for couple weeks. What we need is a Wiki for us - the community - to organize all the help, debugging, hardware interop, software info. These forums are really not made for that.
-
@Zogg-Baubas I hear there is some wiki, but I'm under the impression that it's only for the Omega1. I'm not sure, though, I haven't even looked at any wikis yet.

This has definitely turned off-topic!

the sd card issue has been resolved as of b143

confirmed working on 0.1.8 b145 with an 64GB SDXC card. Juppie

@Lazar-Demin Confirmed working here as well!
I notice that it is mounted under /tmp.
Now, I of course want to use the sdcard to get more space for software, for example for gcc.
What is your advice how to achieve this? I want to use the sdcard instead of the overlayfs. I'm thinking of inserting soft links in the root.
If I instead simply move everything to the sdcard. Is there a way not to mount the overlayfs but the sdcard instead?
-
@Lazar-Demin In relation to this comment from @Mikael-Djurfeldt :

Would it be possible to have an updated version of https://wiki.onion.io/Tutorials/Using-USB-Storage-as-Rootfs for the Omega2 that covers SD card and USB storage? The Omega1 instructions don't seem to work because of issues with/lack of block-mount, see: https://community.onion.io/topic/1234/is-block-mount-gone-where-is-block
While I haven't had time to play with this yet, I am guessing that we need to use uci but I am unclear and documentation would be appreciated.
Slightly off topic, would it also be possible to include a link in https://docs.onion.io/omega2-docs/ to the Omega1 documentation at https://wiki.onion.io/Home ? I have seen some instances of people getting confused by the fact that there are differences between Omega1 and Omega2
I appreciated that you all have a lot on at the moment, but hopefully you will find some time in the future to address the above issues

In relation to using pivot-overlay (and/or pivot-root) on the Omega2 to get more system disk space using a USB drive (or SD card?), see my recent post https://community.onion.io/topic/1295/more-system-disk-space-using-pivot-overlay-and-pivot-root-on-the-omega2

@Wolfgang-Brehm Confirmed working on b145 with 8GB SanDisk.
To upgrade use
oupgrade --latest
.Then you should see following in
dmesg

Expect new articles on running the Omega's OS from an SD card in the near future!
We'll also be updating the wiki to differentiate between the classic Omega and the Omega2!Stay tuned!
